I'm CPT David Haight, or at least I really was a captain with the Royal Marine Commandos in Korea 11 years ago. My boss, MAJ
"Mad Mike" Hoare the commander of our No.5 Commando, still calls me captain. We are known here as the Wild Geese, but the
European news papers just call us mercenaries. This is the 110th day that the Simbas have taken over Stanleyville along with 800
to 1200 European and American hostages, as well much of the Congo. We started with 300 men from South Africa, but have lost
quite a number now, but this coming early morning, that will change.
Sometime before dawn 24 Nov 64 the American Air Force will drop 350 Belgian Paras on our golf course. After dark a team of my men will remove any obstacles from the "drop zone" then guide these troops to secure the Stanleyville Air Port for the arrival of more troops and vehicles. After the paras get moving, I plan to take a select small party to the American Embassy. It seems that our very best manner of Simbas have been torturing remaining staff and their favorite victims...Nuns. I plan to give back as good these bastards have given. This Yank trench knife on my belt is very sharp on one side and very dull on the other for this very reason. In a few hours "Operation Dragon Rouge" will change this country! |
