As the Rangers settle in for darkness a silience falls across them one and all. For some this will be their first taste of combat. Captain Egan, Lt. Graves and Sgt. ''Pappy'' Garrett go over their plans for the next hour. In the distance AA fire can be heard mixed with the muffled rumble of the sky-jockeys deadly load. |
Iraqi troops & members of al-Adnan, a Republician guard infantry division, sit about sucking on coke & smoking cheap cig's in front of their communication bunkers. Too relaxed when all hell is about to break loose. |
The Republican guardsmen in the background is the first to be hit. After stepping away from the mine's firing device to relieve himself, a bullet slams into the right side of his temple in a bright crimmson spray. Meanwhile the guardsman in the foreground tries to rally his men as 40mm rounds begin to pump in on top of them. |
Smoke fills the night air along with the pop, pop, pop of AK's and the whack, whack of M-16's and the SAW. The enemy scramble to get off mortar rounds but the rounds land far past the squad of Rangers. |
A quick burst from ''Pappy's'' M16 and the big guardsman falls to the ground motionless. Seeing him lying there the others quickly loose faith while motar rounds continue to burst far out of range. |
Some of the Iraqi's throw up their arms to surrender while others lower them and continue to return fire confused without the elite guardsmen to lead them. As quickly as it began it's over. Time to sweep up. |
