Next, I have been on an Indochina kick lately. So I'll try and explain the next 3 photos as best I can. The first is of a French Para at Dien Bien Phu. He's a Dragon Adam which I painted his hair and eyebrows black. The helmet is Cotswold. The camo shirt is a vintage Joe piece and the boots are Hasbro as well. The red scarf is home made. The rest of the equipment is TUS. If you look closely at his hand, you can barely make out a cigarette.
The next in the line is a Muong soldier of the 10e Parachutiste de ChasseursA Pied 1951. I thought it'd be different to have a native soldier from that time period. He's dressed in a Hasbro camo pattern shirt and pants. The hat is from a Australian ODF. All the rest of the equipment is TUS except for the carbine which is Cotswold.
Lastly is Capt. Bizard, French NCO, 1er Compagnie, 5e Bataillon Parachutiste Vietnamienne; Dien Bien Phu, April 1954. On April 18, Capt. Bizard led survivors of 1st Co., 5e BPVN and 1/2e REI in a desperate breakout down the airstrip from strong points 'Huguette6'. Using mostly grenades as they leapt over the surrounding VM trenches. Witnesses described them wearing part-filled sandbags slung as improvised splinter armor.
The uniform is a TUS ranger shirt and pants that I bleached to lighten the color. Then I hand painted the correct camo patten on it and gave it a wash to fade it a little. The camo scarf is hand made. The sandbag is a 21st which I emptied and filled with actual sand. The carbine is from Cotswold.
