COMRADE SUB-LT. SERGEI VASIL
By: Minuteman

Here are photos of my last com-bloc project of a Russian Airborne Spetsnaz commissioned officer, comrade Sub-Lt. Sergei Vasil. I used a TUS Swat Commander and painted his head and added the goatee with epoxy putty. He has on a great coat with ranking boards and patches on the collar as well as in the arms which is the airborne armpatch, and he wears a turquoise beret (made with epoxy putty) with badge and patch, a leather map case (real leather) on his waist, and is armed with a Makarov 9mm x 18 pistol with holster and bayonet. Note: a sub-Lt. wears the beret rather than an officer peaked cap. On his lower right arm of his coat is a service patch – which has a red star and bar. This signifies that he has been in service for 5 to 9 years. His main armament is the AK-74 rifle early production model with the folding wooden stock.

He has seen action in Afghanistan, and recently in the breakaway region of Chechnya. His current missions are classified, in which he leads a select squad of Spetsnaz Alpha Team operators. Sergei is a bit old for his rank. This guy might have been a colonel by now, if only he was popular with his superiors. He has been demoted several times for unruly conduct. In one instance, during the Chechen fiasco, he slugged his commanding officer due to a bungled assault which left most of his men seriously wounded and others killed. The Kremlin was so displeased with the way their officers handled the failed siege, that most in command were removed from active duty, including Sergei’s commander. Thus saving his neck and carreer. He might not be a pleasant individual, but when the chips are down you would want this warrior right by your side and leading by example.

Note: The Russian ranking are the following: private, lance corporal, lance sergeant, sergeant, sgt., Batallion sgt., sgt. major, ensign, sub lieutenant, 2nd lieutenant, lieutenant, captain, major, lt. colonel, colonel, major general, lt. general, colonel-general, army general, marshal (of particular service branch), chief marshal (of particular service branch), marshal of the Russian federation. The shoulder boards are similar with the different branches of service but have different colors on the piping. I only know two. Airborne is turquoise, while the Naval Infantry is red. Also included are reference materials.
