Wehrmacht Gefreiter (Lance Corporal), 23rd Infantry Division, Moscow - 1941
This is strictly a kit bash. I used the overcoat, helmet, toque, pants, and boots from the Eastern Front kit. I took the MP-40 and all the gear (belts, grenades, ammo pouches, etc) from the Wehrmacht kit. I used the gloved hands from the Elite Soldier kit. The 23rd Infantry was one of the units that got the closest to Moscow in 1941. Advance elements could actually see the spires of the Kremlin off in the distance. With this in mind, I chose a figure that looked haggard and cold. This figure was from the 101st Airborne kit. This figure has sunken cheeks and dark lips. He appears like he has gone without adequate food and adequate winter clothing for a long time. I think he was perfect for this kit bash. |
Fallschirmjager Leutnant, 6th Parachute Regiment, Nomandy - 1944
For the most part, this is a simple kit bash. I took the Fallschirmjager kit and put him into 1944 Normandy. I did this by equipping him with the gear from the Wehrmacht kit (MP-40, ammo pouches, and gear). I also put standard Wehrmacht pants on him instead of the bagging Fallschirmjager pants. Since he is an officer, I gave him binoculars. I customized this figure by cutting the helmet cover off of the helmet from the German NCO kit and re-attaching it to the Fallschirmjager helmet. The splinter pattern of the helmet cover matches perfectly with that of the smock. I topped it off with a helmet band. The mini-series "Band of Brothers" shows quite well how the Fallschirmjager in Normandy looked. I tried to match that and I think he turned out pretty good. |
SS Unterscharfuhrer (Sergeant), 3rd SS Division (Totenkoph), Operation Barbarossa - 1941
This figure is also a basic kit bash for the exception of the helmet and dickey. I customized the helmet with decals from Patches of Pride (www.patchesofpride.com). I also added the Totenkoph (Death's Head) insignia to the dickey. The rest of the figure is made up from the weapons and gear from the Wehrmacht kit. The boots and pants are from the Eastern front kit (as is the figure). The SS smock is from the Machine Gunner kit. |
Wehrmacht Obergefreiter (Corporal), 76th Infantry, German 6th Army, Stalingrad - 1942
This too is a basic kitbash with some minor customizing done. The pants, boots, weapons and gear are all from the Eastern Front kit. The tunic is from the Wehrmacht kit. The helmet is from the NCO kit. The medals are from Dragon. The Corporal chevrons are from Patches of Pride. The Iron Cross Second Class ribbon is home made. Lastly, I added a helmet band to the helmet. |
Excellent work all around here Rich. I really loved the idea of adding the camo helmet cover to the Fallschirmjager helmet. That looks awesome. I have to say my favorite soldier in this batch though is that great looking SS Barbarossa figure. Awesome work on each of these guys though. Some of the nicest looking kitbashed and customized Germans I've seen around here. I wouldn't mind having any of them in my own collection. Special thanks for sending them in and sharing them with us. - GL |
