M1917 and M1919A4 Machine Gun kits

By: Rich

M1919A4 - The earlier TUS version can be seen to the left of the newer TUS version, while the DML is in the rear. While the older TUS version is still a decent piece, the new gun has more crisp moldings, and the cooling sleeve is hollow with an inserted barrel that runs the full length of the sleeve. I mention this because all 3 of my DML guns have short barrels that leave an obvious gap behind the muzzle.

Reverse view. BTW, having seen these guns in military museums, they do have a slight "green tint" to the parkerizing, but are definitely not this shade of green. I'm never really worried about the color anyway since I almost always repaint my scale weapons. The tripods are made by different manufacturers and are simply parkerized and not green at all.

TUS on left, DML to the right.

Reverse of the above. The bulkier TUS T&E mechanism can now be seen.

DML tripod on top, TUS tripod on bottom. The DML tripod does not fold as well as can be seen here. The TUS version folds correctly.

Open view of the tripods from beneath. The TUS logo can barely be seen here. Note this is the M2 tripod, but can be used as it's cousin, the M122 or M122A1 tripod to hold the M60, M240, and M249 machine guns. The M240 was fully adopted by the Army after I retired, but talking with some Infantry troops in 2001 I was told that the M240 had a lighter weight tripod designated for that gun, but they had also used it on the M122/122A1 tripods. So, if any of your guys mount this MG on your Stuart or other vehicles, keep that tripod for your Viet Nam to more modern troops to use!

Feed tray open. Bolt carrier works the same as on the M1917A1. Better view of the T&E. Like I've said, it is bulkier, but is passable.

Muzzle view, left side.

Right side. I should have paid more attention, but was in a hurry to take these pics inside since I was rained out yesterday afternoon. The rear sight will stand correctly, I simply posed it too far to the rear by mistake. The front sight does not fold down as the DML version does.

Right side.

Left side. While this gun is not perfect straight out of the package, it is certainly passable and will fit into a scale vignette well. As you can see, the DML version is not perfect either, and cost me far more than $5.00! I recommend this kit to anybody seeking this venerable little .30 cal.

Both guns are a fantastic deal as far as I am concerned and well worth a few bucks each.
